VFW National Home for Children's - Who we help-
The National Home's community is open to families of active-duty military personnel, veterans and – recognizing that the effects of war can last for generations - descendants of members of the VFW and its Auxiliary. The family can be one or both parents with one or more children.
War takes a terrible toll on American military and veteran families.
Emotional wounds, financial stress, fractured family relationships, hopelessness and more can often be the outcome for families with a parent serving our country – now, recently or from earlier generations.
Families may have a life changing experience when living in our community where they can:
* Find stability and security during a deployment
* Recover from a crisis
* Deal with life's challenges to get their feet under them
* Keep the family whole during vocational rehabilitation
* Find happiness that was taken away
From the Chaplain’s Pen ……………………........................................…… Chaplain Al Lowe
Here it is August, already. Now this is a great time of opportunity to do the really meaningful Veterans of Foreign Wars activity – as a Vet, go to school!
I have gone to the high school here in our town a couple of times. Among other things, the school was named after the namesake of Post 4008 – Henry T. Waskow. It is with pride on several different levels I go along with a few others of our Post to HTW High. As a point of interest, my grandson graduated from HTW with honors and now his sister is a senior at HTW and we will go to her graduation in June.
The opportunity is to demonstrate to the public and community that we as Veterans of Foreign Wars are active in our community. We take advantage of the opportunities to associate and share with our community. I really hate to say this, but too many in the community think of the VFW as a smoke-filled bar full of bums drinking and smoking. This is where we show that we are honorable Veterans participating in our community – and inviting potential VFW members to join with us!
I believe our Commander is correct in securing new members. However, I think there are so many opportunities for each Post across Texas who needs to get out and get busy.
We can do this!
