From the Chaplain’s Pen………………………………………....………………… Dr. Al Lowe
WOW! Here we are in February already. I am a day or two late with this article, and today is Ground Hog’s Day. I have no idea where that legend came from, and really don’t care. When the weather pundit says “six more weeks of winter” it is a rather mundane statement; we have had no winter so far – except for the wind blowing all the Cedar pollen up my nose.
I went to the VFW Mid-Winter conference in January. It is always good to meet up with the brothers and sisters under the banner of the VFW. At the dinner on Saturday evening, the awards for the Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen were presented. District 14 VOD contestant won some $12,000, not counting what the Post and District gave him. We are so proud of him and hope he continues in his quest of a higher education.
We push forward in the months ahead. In March, I will celebrate my birthday; but, the week prior to that will be the celebration of my 50th wedding anniversary. Believe it or not, Ll and I have been married for 50 years – including my year in Vietnam, and my year in Iraq. Along the way, we have three wonderful children and eight super grandchildren.
I hope you are making your memories of the past realistic, and are concentrating on your ‘soon to be’ memories of the coming year. One of the opportunities of memories is to enlist new members into the VFW. This is a worthy cause, and brings to the Comrade the opportunity of being All American. Great opportunity for all.
Until next month,
