From the Chaplain’s Pen………………………………………....………………… Dr. Al Lowe
I suppose nearly everyone has heard that I put my name in as a candidate for State Chaplain. I truly seek everyone’s support – and vote – and this will be the final time I mention this activity until June of 2017.
One of the things that caused me to join the VFW and specifically the Henry T. Waskow Post 4008 was the activities of the Post. There are so many things in the VFW in which an individual can become involved that I was almost magnetically drawn into the organization.
For the past couple of years, I have been the chairman of the Voice of Democracy competition at Post 4008. I learned that the VOD was an active program in 1964 and available to me when I first went to college, but even though I knew some VFW people, no one ever thought to tell me about it. And when my children went to college and I knew some VFW people, again no one ever told me of the VOD. And times were rough then and money in the Lowe household was scarce.
Well times have changed. I AM the chair of the VOD at Post 4008, and I have made it a personal obligation to tell as many people and students as I can of this opportunity, to work for and receive a large quantity of money, to continue the individual education. While my efforts are concentrated primarily in Belton, the VOD is a National VFW program. Thus ALL VFW posts in our District and across the world have access to the entry forms, the rules and regulations ((there are always rules & regulations)) and should have a designated Comrade as Chairman/woman of the program as a point of contact.
Folks, it is time again to put our efforts before us and get into the community to tell the parents, teachers and students of the Voice of Democracy. Some entries will earn some money – all entries will gain some valuable experience. This is a worthy cause!
