From the Chaplain’s Pen………………………………………....………………… Dr. Al Lowe

As many of you know, I am a candidate for the Department of Texas’ position of State Chaplain.  As an elected position, I am travelling to most of the District meetings, meeting many of the Comrades and discovering the work the various Districts and Posts are doing.  And I must say, there is quite a bit being done under the name of the VFW!

One – of many – I wish to bring to our attention is conducted by the Post 2148 of Waco.  Every sixth Thursday, they get food, drink, slaw, chicken & taters from Bush’s Chicken and take it to the VA Hospital in Waco.  There, they offer food and fellowship to the inpatient Veterans experiencing PTSD.  I have gone with them a couple of times, and the outreach and ministry is almost unimaginable.  This past Thursday, I got to talk with several Veterans, to hear their stories, and share with them some of my experiences.

Another Post is in District 3, Post 5073 in Garland.  This post conducts a Free Haunted House from the 28th through the 31st of October. Their poster announces a FREE HAUNTED HOUSE and Bring the kids out, any of the 4 nights, free admission, all donations accepted.  Again, a wonderful outreach into the community, demonstrating the invitation to all with the probability of securing members.

There are so many ways to get out and let people that the VFW, “nobody does more for the Veterans.”

We are members of a Great Organization, doing Great missions in our communities.  As I travel around Texas, I will be observing what is being done and report on who is doing it.  And along the way, I hope to get a few nods of endorsement.

Thanks for all YOU do, and I will see you downrange.

Blessings,

Chaplain Al Lowe
