Chaplain Corner - October 2017
October 1, 2017
From the Chaplain’s Pen………………………………………....………………… Dr. Al Lowe
WOW! What an August this has been. There were vacations, meetings, comings-and-goings. Seems like we have all been busy.
I suppose the most important event in the month of August was the hurricane Harvey which pounded and continued to pound the greater Houston area. In the spring of the past few years, my son and I would go to Rockport and spend a few days fishing. Not this year! I don’t know for sure, but I suppose the pier, house, and patio where we stayed is gone. And the areas of Veterans of Foreign Wars Districts: 2, 4, 16, 17, 19 were all pounded, and in some cases “re-pounded.”
Through Facebook, I learned of the fortitude of our Comrades in the wake of the hurricane. Some doors were blown away, other doors were opened to the displaced. Some Posts need a lot of work, some posts did a lot of work.
This is what we do! We care for other Veterans, and the people in our community. And we must get this story out for others to hear – and give the others an opportunity to be a part of this great organization.
As we head into September and beyond, let us do so with a thankful heart for the opportunities we have. And let us continue in our commitment to serve. No one does more for the Veteran than the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Thanks for all YOU do, and I will see you downrange.
Chaplain Al Lowe
Bible Verse Of The Month
1st Corinthians, Chaper 15, Verse 10
"But by thr grace og God I am what I am:
and his grace which was be-stowed upon me was not in vain;
but I laboured more abundantly than they all:
yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me."
