KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the family of Senator Daniel K. Akaka.

“From his brave service during World War II and significant Congressional tenure, to his leadership as Chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee and efforts toward maintaining strong national defense and homeland security, Senator Akaka was a true American hero and veterans’ advocate,” said VFW National Commander Keith Harman. “He served our country with pride, and I salute him for all he has given us through his service, and for what he has contributed to our nation. The senator will always hold a place of honor among the 1.7 million VFW and Auxiliary members, and will be missed by many.”
