Post Commander's Message

Greetings Comrades and Sisters,

What a great time of year. We had many great events this last month with a Chili and Been Cook-off followed by a Veterans Day grill out on the 11th and finished it off with a Steak Night the next Saturday and Pot Luck Thanksgiving on the 22nd. Looks like all we did was eat, eat, eat but we all know better. We also visited many of the area schools on or before Veterans Day and participated in their activities. Some were invited to South Belton Middle School for bring a Vet to school day, others attended a visit with a Vet at New Tech Waskow High School, others attended U.S. Military musical tributes at Southwest Elementary. With that being said we lost one of our most notable World War II Veterans on the 1st of December. President George H. W. Bush our 41st President of our United States. If you ever had a chance to meet him you knew he loved the military. If you have some time to spend in College Station his library is well worth the visit.

We have many events this month starting with a Christmas Party on the 8th where we recognition of our Patriots Pen, Voice of Democracy and Teacher of the Year awardees. Employee Christmas Party on the 15th, Ugly Sweeter Contest on the 22nd and New Year’s Eve party on the 31st. There is always food at these events so everyone come out and eat, eat, eat!!

We continue to be a great part of this community and in supporting others to include the many volunteer hours that some of you put in at the VA in Temple, the USO on Fort Hood and supporting our Adopt-A-Unit 4/3 Calvary who has been a great partner. Being part of the VFW means supporting the community we live so that others will see by our example and someday serve in the military as we have.

We want to welcome our new members to the Post please introduce yourself to them and welcome them. I encourage our new members to come and participate in the many activities at the Post this month, there is something for everyone.

Hope to see everyone at our next meeting on the 11th of December at 19:00 hrs. Thank you all again for your hard work and assistance in all we do here at VFW Post 4008.

Yours in Comradeship

Post Commander
