CSM Nathan J. Whitesell


CSM Nathan Whitesell is a native of Mosier, Oregon and enlisted in the Army in September 1989, completing One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, KY, where he received the Military Occupational Specialty of 19D, Cavalry Scout.

CSM Whitesell’s assignments include: M113 Driver, 4th Battalion, 34th Armor, Scout Platoon, Mainz, Germany; Bradley Gunner, 1st Squadron 4th U.S. Cavalry, Fort Riley, KS; Senior Scout, 1st Squadron 7th U.S. Cavalry, Fort Hood, TX; Drill Instructor, 5th Squadron, 15th U.S. Cavalry, Fort Knox, KY;  PSG, 1st Squadron, 32nd U.S. Cavalry (RSTA), Fort Campbell, KY; Senior Instructor ABOLOIC, 2nd Squadron, 16th U.S. Cavalry Fort Knox, KY;  1SG, 1st Squadron, 7th U.S. Cavalry, Fort Hood, TX; a student at the USASMA, Fort Bliss, TX; Operations SGM, 2nd Squadron, 14th U.S. Cavalry, Schofield Barracks, HI; Brigade Operations SGM, 2nd Brigade Stryker, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, HI; G33 Operations SGM, I CORPS, Fort Lewis, WA. 

CSM Whitesell has attended all levels of the Non-Commissioned Offers Education System, culminating with the Class 63 of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.  He is a graduate of the US Army Drill Sergeant School and Air Assault School.  He holds an Associate Degree in Applied Science.

CSM Whitesell’s deployments include: Operations Desert Shield /Desert Storm, OIF III/IV, OIF IX, Operation New Dawn 10-12.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star (one oak leaf clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (seven oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (eight oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (seven oak leaf clusters), Good Conduct Medal (ninth award), National Defense Service Medal (one Bronze Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia and Kuwait), Southwest Asia Service Medal (three Bronze Stars), Overseas Service Ribbon (fifth award), Army Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, and Air Assault Badge. He is a recipient of the Armor Association’s Honorable Order of Saint George - Bronze Award.

CSM Whitesell has been married to his wife for 23 years and has 2 daughters.  His oldest daughter serves in the United States Navy and his youngest will be a freshman in High School.
